About Lasting Legacy Foundation

Our Story

The Lasting Legacy Foundation grew out of a simple but audacious question: what happens to the homes we love when we're gone? Too often, they're sold off by charities in a rush — beloved assets liquidated for a one-time windfall that disappears within a generation or two. Meanwhile, the people with the biggest hearts and no family have almost no good options for ensuring their life's work goes somewhere meaningful.

The original spark for this vision was co-living communities — a belief that intentional community living is one of the most powerful ways to address the affordable housing crisis, the loneliness epidemic, and the AI-driven economic disruption that's coming faster than most people realize. As that idea grew, it became clear that the real bottleneck wasn't inspiration or willingness — it was the infrastructure to actually receive donated homes and steward them responsibly.

That's what the Lasting Legacy Foundation is building: the infrastructure, playbooks, partnerships, and operational model that makes it possible for a donated home to keep giving — not for a year, but for decades. One home, perpetual impact, the donor's name on every grant.

The foundation is led by Dmitri Zasage Sunshine, a systems-oriented entrepreneur based in Boulder, Colorado, who brings a fractional CIO background and a deep commitment to building organizations that operate with startup efficiency without losing their soul.

We are currently in the vision and movement-building stage — actively building the partnerships, playbooks, and infrastructure to bring this vision to life. The 501(c)(3) application is our next milestone. We are pre-filing, which means we describe our intended model and what we are working toward; not what is already in place.
